Alex Dehgan's Schedule – New York Climate Week 2025

Monday, Sept 22

1:30 PM – World Economic Forum: Unlocking Capital for Brazil’s Restoration Economy
Salesforce Tower, 1095 6th Ave, NYC (Closed Event)

The Amazon is closer to a tipping point than ever before, and restoration is key to reversing the trends with fire. Excited to see how carbon, fire, and biodiversity credits can play here.

3 PM – The Future Is Ours to Build: Reimagining U.S. Leadership in Global Conservation
Pier 57, 25 11th Ave, NYC

With the demise of USAID, this is a chance to rethink the future of conservation. The institutions that once defined U.S. leadership in global conservation, USAID among them, have been dismantled or diminished. But this isn’t a moment to rebuild the past. It’s a chance to ask bigger questions: What kind of global conservation system do we need now? And what kind of U.S. role could help bring it to life?

4:30 PM – Launch of ASU School of Conservation Futures
The Pool, 99 E 52nd St, NYC

Two sessions:

Panel: State Leadership & Policy for Forests

State governments are on the frontlines of conserving, restoring, and growing forests. Hear from state leaders on how they are creating enabling environments through policy, innovation, and financing to ensure forests play a critical role in sequestering carbon, protecting biodiversity, and supporting local livelihoods.

Panel: From Catastrophe to Resilience, Forests in a Changing Climate

Climate change–accelerated wildfires, floods, hurricanes, droughts, and heat waves are reshaping U.S. forests. This panel highlights innovators are working to meet these challenges, and how forests themselves are central to resilience solutions.

3:30 PM – WEF + McKinsey Future of Nature Markets Workshop
195 Broadway, NYC (Closed Event)

Examine how to move from intention to action, including how biodiversity credits can be one impactful tool for businesses to operationalize nature strategies. Discuss emerging innovations shaping nature markets, including innovative revenue and partnership solutions. Hear about recent developments and next priorities for biodiversity leaders.

[SPEAKING] 6 PM – Renaissance Philanthropy Dinner: Urgency and Opportunity
Kimpton Hotel Eventi, 851 6th Ave, NYC

One of CXL’s most powerful partnerships is with Renaissance Philanthropies, where I serve as a Fellow. Through Renaissance and in partnership with the Moore Foundation, we are developing a Philanthropic Fund for Fire in South America. This will be an opportunity to speak about this to other donors. Why is this important? Well, last year we lost more forests globally and in the Amazon to fire than any other cause, and the impact of this is moving us closer than ever to the tipping point of the Amazon, when forests transform into grasslands. The impact this has on global emissions is immense and will likely have a domino effect, potentially pushing other climate systems past their own tipping points, such as the melting of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. Moreover, the collapse of the forest would be largely irreversible in any meaningful timeframe, taking centuries to recover even if global emissions were completely halted. If we want to make a difference on #climate, this is absolutely urgent.

Renaissance Philanthropy, in partnership with Outlier Projects, The Navigation Fund, The Bernard and Anne Spitzer Charitable Trust, and the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) will host a  dinner and conversation to explore bold, urgent climate solutions that match the scale of today’s crisis.

9 PM – Nature Tech Nightcap

The WOO WOO, 266 W 47th St, NYC

Join CXL cofounders Paul Bunje and Alex for an informal nightcap.

Wednesday, Sept 24

5 PM – TNFD + Bloomberg: Launch of TNFD's First Status Report
Bloomberg LP, 731 Lexington Ave, NYC

Society, business and finance depend on nature’s assets and the services they provide. The acceleration of nature loss globally is eroding the ability of nature to provide these vital services. Taking action to conserve and restore nature is now a critical global priority. Doing so will reduce risks to business and finance. Mobilizing business innovation and private finance to halt and reverse nature loss and contribute to nature-positive outcomes will be a major source of new commercial opportunity and competitive advantage.

While the case for action is clear, business and finance organizations today do not have the information they need to understand the risks and opportunities for their organization that result from their impacts and dependencies on nature.

To mark the second anniversary of the release of our final recommendations, we will be publishing our first Status Report. This report contributes to the tracking of global market progress and provides insights into the applications and implementation of nature-related assessment and reporting, by distilling feedback from market participants on their nature-related assessment and disclosure journeys and analyzing first-generation TNFD reporting across a diverse range of geographies and sectors.

Conservation X Labs and TNFD are working together to extend TNFD to SMEs at the ends of the supply chain to better protect Nature.
