Conservation X Labs wins Best Consumer Edge AI End Product of the Year for Sentinel AI

SANTA CLARA, CA — Conservation X Labs’ Sentinel has been awarded 2023’s Best Consumer Edge AI End Product from the Edge AI and Vision Alliance. It was evaluated and selected by a panel of independent industry experts based on innovation, competitive differentiation, impact on customers and the market.

CXL’s Sam Kelly accepts the award.

The award was presented recognizing the Sentinel Smart Camera, developed by Conservation X Labs in partnership with Edge Impulse, which was first announced during Edge Impulse’s 2022 Imagine Conference in Mountain View, California.

The Sentinel Smart Camera is an end-to-end monitoring system to better understand and protect wildlife. Through the use of onboard AI, the device can address the greatest threats on the frontlines of the biodiversity crisis, including poaching and wildlife trafficking, invasive species, zoonotic diseases, and changing animal behavior.

Conservationists everywhere can easily create, run, and deploy machine learning models with Sentinel AI. This robust technology gives users real-time information on events in the wild and the ability to respond to threats, such as the presence of a poacher or endangered species, so they can take immediate action.

This technology will fundamentally change how we monitor and protect the environment. Sentinel AI can profoundly increase the scale and efficiency of conservation efforts to better protect biodiversity around the world, including in the hundreds of ‘forgotten parks’ that do not have the capacity to monitor wildlife without this technology.
— Alex Dehgan, Co-Founder and CEO of Conservation X Labs

Already, Sentinel is automatically identifying endangered jaguars in Costa Rica and preventing poaching incidents in real-time, preventing the spread of invasive rodents in California and Hawaii, and detecting a rare neurological disease, feline leukomyelopathy (FLM), in Florida panthers. In the case of rodent detection, Conservation X Labs’ partner Island Conservation used models to reduce data processing speeds (in terms of human hours) by over 90% and reduce data processing costs by 4x. The Florida Wildlife Commission used Sentinel models to identify FLM in Florida panthers with 90% accuracy.

Congratulations to Conservation X Labs for earning the distinction of Best Consumer Edge AI End Product for its Sentinel Smart Camera. Field monitoring systems are challenged by harsh conditions, lack of access to power, and lack of connectivity data transmission. We applaud Conservation X Labs for their innovative use of visual and edge AI technologies to overcome these challenges to help protect our environment.
— Jeff Bier, founder of the Edge AI and Vision Alliance

This award was presented at the 2023 Edge AI and Vision Product of the Year Awards Ceremony held at the Embedded Vision Summit in Santa Clara, California. The awards celebrate the innovation and achievement of the industry’s leading companies that are enabling and developing products incorporating edge AI and computer vision technologies. Winners, finalists, and honorable mentions are featured online.
